(2)答案:
William Butler Yeats is one of the world’s greatest poets, not only in the 20th century, but of all times. His early poems are characterized by a dreamy romanticism in both their form and contents. He is interested in the Gaelic language, song, and folklore, and uses effects borrowed from Gaelic literature in his own poems. Yeats’ poetic style undergoes a number of transformations as he grows older. He can be considered a Symbolist Poet in that he uses allusive imagery and symbolic structures. Yeats chooses words and assembles them so that that they could suggest abstract thoughts which may seem more significant and resonant. His use of symbols is usually something physical which is used both to be itself and to suggest other, perhaps immaterial, timeless qualities. Examples of his poems include The Second Coming.

③ 内容:描写美国南方等级社会、贵族、新兴富人、贫苦白人和黑人
④ 影响:约克纳帕塔法郡已经成为寓言,反映美国南方社会全景
(2)答案:
Most of Faulkner’s works are set in a small region in Northern Mississippi, Yoknapatawpha County, which is actually an imaginary place based on Faulkner’s childhood memory about the town of Oxford in his native Lafayette County. With his rich imagination, Faulkner turned the land, the people and the history of the region into a literary creation and a mythical kingdom. The Yoknapatawpha stories deal with the historical period from the Civil War up to the 1920s when the First World War broke out, and people of a stratified society, the aristocrats, the new rich, the poor whites, and the blacks. As a result, Yoknapatawpha County has become an allegory or a parable of the Old South, with which Faulkner has managed successfully to show a panorama of the experience and consciousness of the whole Southern society.
